Midday meals for college students restored in Mahbubnagar

EdexLive Desk

The midday meal scheme for different college students has once again been launched in Mahbubnagar district after a hiatus of almost two years. The implementation of the scheme was earlier handed over to Akshaya Patra NGO by the then district administration of undivided Mahbubnagar district two years back.

However, the contract with the Ngo was not extended in the following year by the district administration due to which the scheme was suspended in the district. The district administration has decided to implement the scheme on its own this year.

A total of 7614 students studying in government degree colleges will benefit from the scheme. These colleges also include a women's degree college, one general Polytechnic College and one girl's Polytechnic College of the district. The BEd and DEd colleges of the district are not brought under the scheme. The midday meal scheme is aimed at helping the students who come to their colleges from far off places. According to the college authorities, some students are coming to the colleges without having breakfast.
