In an attempt to improve the skills of students and make learning a creative experience, the district education department and Sarva Shiksha Kerala in a joint effort has introduced the project 'Sargavidyalayam' (Creative School) in all schools of the district. The project aims at promoting both teachers and students to come up with innovative techniques enhancing the learning experience.

A project of the state education department, 'Creative School' aims at identifying the innovative techniques and method adopted by each school in the state to improve the academic experience of students and select a few successful strategies which will later be emulated in all the other schools in the state.

A series of activities were held as part of the implementation of the project from the beginning of the academic curriculum this year. According to SSK District Coordinator G N Baburaj, in Wayanad, district education authorities had asked each school to prepare a master plan to improve the academic learning and teaching at each school.

The master plan was to be prepared by the teachers at the beginning of the academic curriculum and each programme mentioned in the master plan must help the student in learning or resolve any of the issues faced by students. The school authorities were also directed to initiate measures to implement the master plan in the school.

A committee of experts including experienced hands from District Institute of Education and Traning (DIET) and retired teachers were constituted at the district-level to evaluate the activities undertaken at each school and choose the best of the lot.

“The jury members have selected some 17 projects undertaken in various schools. These projects will now be extended to each school of the district to improve the academic performance of students,” said Baburaj adding that all the selected projects are innovative in all means. The district education department will also be giving a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each of the selected schools to continue with their project and enhance the learning experience of students.

Baburaj added that it will also be strictly monitored that every school in the district implement these projects accordingly. A state-level presentation of ideas will also be held in the coming days.
