Hyderabad metro stations to put up science exhibitions to promote scientific temper

The eight km-long stretch between Secunderabad East and Nagole metro stations will have scientific promotional activities

Students of Secunderabad, rejoice! News is that a Science corridor will be developed along the eight km route between Secunderabad East and Nagole Metro Stations. Expect theme-based Science and technology exhibitions and many other scientific promotional activities at metro stations. Help will be taken from national Science laboratories and research institutions along the route. All this to tingle the scientific temperament of youngsters and pique their curiosity.

The MoU was signed by Dr D Shailaja, Sr Principal Scientist IICT; BN Rajeshwar, GM, HMRL and Chandrachud D Paliwal, Company Secretary, L&T MRHL

With regards to the same, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding. NVS Reddy, MD of HMRL, said that, "In order to create scientific temper in common public, and children in particular, and to provide an opportunity to observe and appreciate the utility of science in daily life, HMRL and L&T MRHL have tied up with CSIR-IICT to develop a Science Corridor in the city."

Dr S Chandrasekhar thanked NVS Reddy for considering their request and said, "It is the first time that in our country, an exclusive science corridor is being developed to inspire young minds. The allotted metro pillars and station areas will be utilised for display of the elements of the periodic table in view of the year 2019 being declared by UNESCO as the International Year of the Periodic Table." He also mentioned that the walls will also be used to display the portraits of legendary scientists which will give everyone an opportunity to reflect on the great contributions of these scientists in improving quality of life and human welfare.
