In connection with Thoothukudi student Lois Sofia arrest, the police told the state human commission inquiry committee in Tirunelveli that they would not prevent the student to go abroad.

Lois Sofia had been arrested on September 4 by Pudukottai Police in Thoothukudi district on the charges of shouting slogan against the BJP government on board a private airline with the party's state leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on the flight. Based on a complaint lodged by her, the student Lois Sofia was arrested. The student's father A A Samy sent a petition to the state human rights commission.

Following which, the state human rights commission conducted an inquiry in Tirunelveli on September 24. The state human rights commission member D Jayachandran conducted the inquiry. Pudukottai Police Station Inspector Thirumalai appeared during the inquiry. Sofia and her father A. A. Samy also appeared along with their advocates. Speaking to reporters, Sofia and her father's advocate E. Athisayakumar said that during the arrest, police mentally harassed her for hours. During the human rights commission inquiry, they submitted in writing about the human rights violations committed by police during the arrest of Sofia.

During the inquiry, the concerned police station inspector and investigating officer Thirumalai appeared and said that the police would not object Sofia to travel abroad to continue her studies. The commission asked him to give it in written in a week's time.

The human rights commission ordered sub-inspector Latha to appear before it during the next inquiry on October 26. The advocate noted that Sofia needs a year to complete her research studies in Canada. Though Samy gave petition against Tamilisai Soundararajan, the police did not inquire Samy, his wife, daughters among others in this regard. But, the police inspector said during the state human rights commission inquiry that he conducted an inquiry in connection with the petition. The advocate said that they would move the court in this regard.
