A Human Resources (HR) professional based in Delhi recently resorted to LinkedIn to express her surprise when a freshly hired employee put down his papers after just one day.
In her post, the HR professional indicated, without exposing the employee's information, that the candidate quit on day 1 without a phone call or explanation. According to the HR department, they quit on the first day of work because they did not like the work assigned to them, NDTV reports.
She also stated that the employee was hired for the sales team and that, although the task was difficult, she had fully outlined the function to the candidate before making the offer.
In a post titled “A message to all job seekers,” the HR professional said that an employee who recently joined quit the job at the end of his Day 1, messaging, “'Mujhe yeh kaam pasand nahi aaya (I didn't like the job)”. “No call, no proper explanation. Just-done,” she wrote.
According to her, the employee was hired in the Sales department, and the nature of the work and the challenges he might encounter had been discussed prior to his hiring. This abrupt announcement by the employee left the HR professional to wonder, “So what changed overnight?”
"No job becomes perfect in a day. No company can prove everything in 24 hours. And no role will ever feel "comfortable" until you give it your time, energy, and mindset," the executive wrote, reflecting on the incident.
She also urged prospective job applicants to enquire about their job title during the interview to avoid similar issues.
“If you're unsure, wait-don't rush to say yes. Once committed, try to give your role a fair chance before deciding it's "not for you." And most importantly, communicate. Silence never shows professionalism. Growth doesn't come from perfect jobs-it comes from patience, clarity, and learning from discomfort," she said.
The message elicited diverse reactions from social media users. While some were taken aback by the candidate's statement, others pondered what motivated them to leave the position after just one day.
