Raja Muthiah Medical College administration has issued a notice informing parents that the medical and dental college would be closed indefinitely due to the protests on campus. The administration alleged that the students were being influenced by ‘politicians and trade unionists’ and threatened that they would be slapped with FIRs if they continued the protests.

“The hostel and mess have been closed since January 22 but your ward has continued to stay on campus despite repeated requests,” the letter said. The administration is alleging that ‘outsiders’ such as trade unionists, politicians and others are entering and influencing the students. In strict terms the Principal and the Dean also said that incase law and order issues persist, they would file FIR against the students, “Such a situation may seriously affect the future of your wards, hence ask them to return home immediately.”

The students on campus have been protesting against exorbitant fees for almost 45 days now. The administration then decided to close the campus. The Tamil Nadu Medical Students Association has reacted angrily to the decision to close down and also the administration’s decision to send their parents these letters. They condemned the University for depriving students of basic facilities like food and accommodation because they were protesting and forcing them out of campus. 

“If you care so much for students, why did you stop food and electricity for two days? The administration is basically threatening our parents. Instead of threatening students why can't they just fulfill our requests. They are called trade union leaders and politicians as terrorists. If there is any problem inside the campus, then the college administration is responsible. Brining the police inside campus is condemnable,” the TNMSA argued.
