MOP Vaishnav College for Women in Chennai launched an eight-day national-level capacity-building programme — Teacher's Tool Kit — on January 18. The programme which is meant to enable teachers to develop new skills, improve student engagement and also understand a teachers' role in society better will go on till January 25. It is being conducted virtually due to the Coronavirus restrictions which are still in place.

This programme is the brainchild of the principal of the college Dr Lalitha Balakrishnan. It has been curated by the Department of Commerce along with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Director of IQAC Dr Nisha Udayshanker said, "This capacity-building programme aims at bringing in professionalism into the work culture of faculty by adopting effective classroom management strategies and teaching styles, adapting to changing learning styles of the next-gen and simultaneously learn the art of management of interpersonal relationships. How they can serve as a medium for faculty to get a deep insight into the crucial role that is played by them in moulding students. The programme also wishes to expand the teaching toolkit and make faculty initiate new teaching methodologies they have not tried before, like several online learning/teaching tools that have come to fore during the pandemic."

Around 14 speakers, including an education sector consultant from the United States, will address the delegates at the programme. A total of 110 teachers from MOP and 82 faculty members from 53 other colleges have registered to attend the sessions. The inaugural address was delivered by Ramkumar Ramamoorthy, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Krea University, Chennai, and the event will end on January 25 with a valedictory address by Dr MS Shyamasunder, Advisor, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
