The Students Federation of India, University of Hyderabad has written to the University Grants Commission seeking its intervention into the issue of encroachment on its campus. The Association is asking the UGC to ensure that the administration gets the mutation of the land transferred to the University.

The SFI informed the UGC in its letter that there had been several incidents of encroachment and illegal construction on the campus. “On January 7, people started constructing a road for an outside colony. This is not the first instance, this has happened in several similar instances in the past too. The University land is a prospect for future developments with the growing pace of academics, to establish new departments and fields of study,” the SFI said.

The Association also said that this wasn’t just about the students, it was about the flora and fauna as well, “Rampant encroachment and construction on university campus will put the existence of the biodiversity of the campus at risk, of which several plant and animal species are already endangered.”

“We request you to kindly intervene in the matter to ensure the protection of the University land. We also request that the University administration be instructed to get the mutation of the land transferred to the University at the earliest,” the SFI requested in its letter.
