SRM Dental College prof found dead by suicide in hostel room, police register case

An assistant professor from SRM Dental College in Chennai was found dead by suicide in her room at the hostel on campus on Monday night. The deceased, P Indu has been working at the college for the last two years. The reason behind her suicide has not yet been ascertained. 

Indu hailed from Erode. Besides being an Assistant Professor, she was also the Deputy Warden of the hostel. When she failed to come out of her room on Monday night, the hostel warden went to check on her. When repeated knocks yielded no response, the warden informed the police, said sources.

The police broke open the door and found that Indu had ended her life using her dupatta, she was rushed to SRM hospital but was declared dead, a DT Next report said. A case has been registered with the Maraimalai Nagar Police and her body has been sent for post mortem to Chengalpattu government hospital.

The teacher had lost her father last month which could have led to her decision, the police feel. However, they will also be investigating to see if she had been facing any problems in the college.
