Exactly after two days of restarting regular classes for Class 10 and PUC 2 students and Vidyagama for Classes 6 to 9 students, six more teachers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka. Two teachers have been tested positive in Kuruvatti government high school and a private school in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district respectively. Another two teachers of higher primary school in Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district and two teachers of a private school in Kalasa town have also been tested positive. As a result, Suresh Kumar S, Primary and Secondary Education Minister, has instructed to reopen these particular schools only after 10 days.

On Saturday, ten teachers were tested positive for COVID-19 in Gadag district. Around nine teachers were from Betageri while one teacher was from Naragunda taluk in Hubballi district. The DDPI had informed that they will reopen these schools once everything normalises and when they have explicit instructions from the health department.

No more Monday blues
Despite these positive cases among teachers, there has been positive response from students in attending schools. According to the updates from Primary and Secondary Education department, of the 3,62,704 students enrolled in 5492 undergraduate colleges in Karnataka, 1,99,553 attended classes on Monday. Similarly, out of 9,29,130 students enrolled in Class 12 in 16,850 high schools, 4,81,728 are in attendance. (51.95 per cent attendance). A total of 4,71,823 students attended the Vidyagama classes across the state.
