Physical education and related activities mandatory for all school students in Punjab

Punjab government has decided to make physical education-related activities compulsory for school children.

This decision will be implemented in the state after the reopening of schools following the COVID-19 shutdown.

According to a spokesperson of the Punjab school education department, after getting approval from the education minister Vijay Inder Singla, the Director, SCERT has issued letters to all district education officers and school heads in this regard.

He informed that various sports for physical activities have been included for the students from first to 12th classes.

According to the spokesperson, the purpose of initiating physical activities for the students is to identify their hidden talents, to ensure their all-round development and to give them the right direction beside to provide a high-level platform for sports by selecting talented players.

He said that these physical activities will help the students to be physically fit as well as increase their flexibility and strengthen their muscles.

This will also increase the tolerance, focus and physical balance of the students.

They will also develop a sense of leadership by physical activities, he added.
