It has been more than four years since Haseeb Ahmad last saw or heard from his big brother. For the past four years, Haseeb, along with his mother Fatima Nafees and the rest of the family has been in an endless search for his older brother Najeeb Ahmad, a JNU student, who mysteriously disappeared on October 15, 2016.

Four years down the line, Haseeb says that the case hasn't made any progress. Nor a single arrest has been made. In these years,  a missing person FIR and a Habeas Corpus writ have been filed by his mother Fatima Nafis. Multiple investigation agencies, including the Delhi Police's Special Investigation Team and the Central Bureau of Investigation, have investigated the matter after this. There was even a reward of Rs 10,00,000 announced to anyone who spots Najeeb. However, after 26 rounds of interrogation, the CBI had filed a closure report in the case. "Nobody knows what happened to my brother. We will still fight for justice," says Haseeb, over the phone, from his office in Delhi. Last year, the Delhi Waqf Board had offered him the position of an engineer.

Fatima, popularly known as Ammi, is in their house in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. "Ammi isn't in good health now," says Haseeb. "She finds it hard to walk, to get up. But her spirits are still high," he adds. Unlike previous years, the family cannot go out and protest, with the COVID protocols in place. However, even on this October 15, #WhereIsNajeeb trends on Twitter, a question that many had asked over years, unable to find an answer.

No suicide note was found, say police.
