The Jadavpur University has informed its students and aspirants that it will continue the evening course of MA in History and the forms for the course will be out with other postgraduate courses on Monday, November 23. The university had earlier declared that it will suspend the evening course from the coming academic year. The Arts Faculty Students' Union (AFSU) has been protesting the move since September.

Earlier this year the Board of Studies (BoS) of the Jadavpur University had decided not to continue the evening MA in History course from the coming academic year. The AFSU protested the move right from the beginning and they started physical sit-in demonstration on campus on September 24. A few representatives also met the ProVice-Chancellor who promised them on November 11 that the course will be on. The students suspended their sit-in with a promise that the notifications will be out within a week.

"They cannot just stop a course that too in the middle of a pandemic. We stayed put on our resolve for a couple of months. There were innumerable meetings, sit-in demonstrations, protests and deputations to the authorities and finally they conceded," said AFSU Chairperson Teerna Bhattacharya. "Not just the History department's evening course but admission forms to all MA courses will be available from November 23. We are definitely happy that our protest yielded result and we will fight for education and right to education whenever needed," she added.
