The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that students appearing for CA exams cannot ask for any concessions as they were also writing other exams, pandemic or otherwise. The apex court asked the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to publish a press release, enlisting the SOPs it has undertaken ahead of the CA examinations. It was hearing a petition that sought SOPs to be adopted for the exams, which was dismissed. The examinations are scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 14.

"These students appearing for professional examinations and they should gear up themselves and not ask for such concessions," noted the bench that consisted of Justices  AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna. It also asked the ICAI's lawyer Senior Advocate Ramji Srinivasan Bench to notify on the website the concerns of the students and the steps taken by the Institute, so that the students are made aware of the corrective measures.

The ICAI submitted that it has adhered to all the guidelines laid down by the Ministry of Home Affairs.  It also noted that the examination format cannot be altered and that it cannot be written online. Previously, while talking to EdexLive, ICAI President Atul Kumar said that the institute is taking all possible measures for safe and secure conduct of the examinations. "The ICAI has increased the examinations centres from 505 planned for May 2020 Exam to 915 for November 2020 examination to cover additional 192 districts of the country to facilitate candidates to not to travel beyond their district to the extent possible. ICAI will also implement adequate Social Distancing measures in the current scenario of Covid-19 to ensure the health and safety of our candidates. Adequate measures are being taken for the safety of all without compromising the high standards, sanctity and fairness in the conduct of the examination," he then said.
