UoM VC, IIT Madras prof, TNAU VC on high level committee to assess COVID-impact on economy

Several academicians have been included in a high level committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government to assess the fiscal challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown at the state. This high-level committee includes vice chancellors, professors and directors of educational institutions. 

The list includes Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras P Duraisamy, Prof PG Babu, director of Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, N Kumar and Professor M Suresh Babu from Indian Institute of Technology - Madras.

The committee will assess overall impact of the pandemic on various sectors of the State's economy - this will include the impact of the lockdown, low attendance, employment rates. They will suggest ways in which the economy of Tamil Nadu can be revived, including the immediate threats and opportunities that will place itself to the state. The team will also look into different sources of funding for infrastructure projects and other businesses. 

The team is expected to submit the report within the next three months.
