Tamil Nadu increases retirement age for Govt, Aided teachers to 59 years amidst COVID pandemic

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to increase the retirement age for government employees and teachers, even those working with aided institutions, from 58 years to 59 years and this new order will apply to all those who are due to retire on May 31. The order is also applicable to non-teaching staff as well who are working in all educational institutions.

The Personnel and Administrative reforms department issued the order on May 7 and stated that it will be applicable to all teaching and non-teaching staff working in aided educational institutions and employees of constitutional/statutory bodies, public sector undertakings including all state corporations, local bodies, boards, commissions, societies etc.

K Shanmugam, the Chief Secretary to the Government also said that all the relevant provisions under Rule 56 of the Tamil Nadu Fundamental Rules will be modified as well and the amendments would also be issued according to the new rule.
