Chennai Corporation to take over all schools for COVID relief by May 2

Chennai Corporation is set to take over all the private and government school buildings for COVID19 related works by May 2. According to an order by Corporation Commissioner G Prakash, under the section 30 (2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the district authorities will identify buildings to be used for relief work or camps and make arrangements for water supply and sanitation.
"The concerned Chief Educational Officer (CEO) and District Educational Officer (DEO) may be instructed accordingly. The principal or headmasters of the respective school shall act as Nodal officers,'' the commissioner said.
This move comes in the wake of a rapid rise of cases in the city. Recently, the Chennai Corporation has arranged beds in Loyola College for Nungambakkam and before that, 600 beds were arranged in the Trade Centre.
