India has confirmed 724 cases of COVID-19 cases so far. As the country enters day three of the nationwide lockdown, many institutions and fundraisers have come forward to lend a helping hand. The Jadavpur University Teachers' Association has requested the university to collect the teachers' contributions to the Chief Minister Relief Fund, to combat Coronavirus, directly from their salary.

"All of us are going through a very difficult time. As we have to stay at home, we can’t give our consent with a signature on the hard copy of the consent form. So we have requested the administration to take the consent by e-mail and they have agreed to our proposal and created a dedicated e-mail address — jucoronarelieffund@jadavpuruniversity.in —  for this purpose," said Dr Parth Pratim Ray, General Secretary of the JUTA.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Suranjan Das is set to appeal to all the employees of the University with a format of the consent form. "We will have to send that consent form by e-mail to the above address. One can opt to donate either one day’s gross salary or any other fixed amount as they deem fit," added Dr Ray.

The JUTA General Secretary also added that the organisation strongly feels for the daily workers and casual staff who are attached to the varsity and have requested the administration to look into their problem during this tough time, "JUTA will try to do its best to help these unfortunate people in their time of distress."
