After Private School Associations challenged the Tamil Nadu government's order prohibiting them from collecting fees by taking the matter to court, the government has informed the court that the state only restrains schools from forcibly collecting fees from parents. The government said that it doesn't prevent parents from paying fees to the school if they voluntarily can afford to do so. 

The Private School Associations have maintained so far that despite the urging from society and the government to not collect fees, it has its hands tied because administrations still needed to pay their teachers' salaries. To this argument, the government has said that since the schools have received the state's reimbursement of Rs 248.79 crores, they could use it to pay the salaries for the next few months.

The court has now asked the Federation of Association of Private School and All India Private Educational Institutions Association members to file a detailed report on the process of collecting fees in installments for a while without affecting parents and their children. The state has also been asked to review the report and inform the court about the same by July 6.
