Here's how to find out if a school is affiliated to the CBSE

EdexLive Desk

The Central Board of Secondary Education kickstarted its Class X board examinations on Monday. While all the registered students wrote the examination, 29 students in Kochi stayed back home after they were not able to write the examinations. They are students of Arooja Little Star's School, Kochi which discovered only a few days ago that its students would not be allowed to write their exams because their school wasn't affiliated to CBSE.

The students got to know about the same only after they reached the school on Monday. A few were even hospitalised, owing to stress. Parents blame this on the school's management. The school tried to get the candidates to write the exam as students registered in other schools.

In case you're doubtful about the affiliation of a particular school, the step to clear your doubt is quite simple. All you have to do is visit the government's cbseaff.nic.in and go to the list of affiliated schools. Here, you can type the affiliation number that the school has provided and check the affiliation certificate. If you don't know the number, you can also view the list of schools in that particular district. Interestingly, in Ernakulam, the district where the controversial Arooja Little Star's School is situated has only 199 schools that are affiliated by the CBSE. Now, you can also see if the schools are affiliated up to the Secondary or the Senior Secondary levels. Apart from these, the website also shows you a list of 108 schools in the country that are no longer affiliated to the board.

Now, in case, the school isn't affiliated, you can ask the authorities to apply for affiliation through the same website. It also shows a clear set of instructions that have to be followed for the same.

In case you wish to lodge a complaint against the school that is wrongly claiming to be affiliated to the board, you can file a complaint against them with the Chief Vigilance Officer of the Board. More instructions regarding the same can be found here http://www.cbse.nic.in/vigilance/Guidelines%20and%20FAQs.html
