Puducherry schools to open from January 4 for half-day, fully operational from January 18

Puducherry Education Minister Kamalakkannan announced on December 16 that schools in the state will be reopened from January 4.

Educational institutions have been closed since March 21 due to the spread of Coronavirus. Many private schools have been teaching online during these months. The Central Government had announced that it would adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and open educational institutions. Subsequently, schools and colleges have been open since December for final year students.

Speaking to the media today, Kamalakkannan said, “All classes in schools in Puducherry are scheduled to start on January 4. Accordingly, from January 4, all schools will be open for half a day. Classes will be held from 10 am to 1 pm. It has been decided to fully operate schools from January 18. Coming to school will be optional for students.” Schools for Classes 9 to 12 have already been opened and classes are being conducted in Puducherry.
