The National Testing Agency on Wednesday, released the admit cards for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This has come as a shocker for thousands of students and their parents who have been continuously seeking the postponement of examinations, citing the rise in COVID cases and related deaths in the country. The exam is scheduled to be held on September 13.

At the same time, students have been asking each other to not download the admit cards, instead, take screenshots. "The government says that students want to write these entrances just because they are downloading admit cards. But that isn't he case. They want postponement and are downloading the cards to know their exam centres," says Manas Chandra, a NEET aspirant, who petitioned the Supreme Court seeking a postponement of the entrances. "Instead, if they take screenshots, the government wouldn't have an idea," he says. On Tuesday, the Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that out of the 8.58 lakh students who registered for JEE, 7.25 lakh downloaded their admit cards.

The NTA, in a release, said that more than 99 per cent of the candidates have gotten their first choice of Centre Cities in both JEE and NEET. 15.97 lakh students have registered for NEET. "In order to ensure proper social distancing inside the examination halls, the candidates will be seated in alternate seats in case of JEE (Main). In case of NEET, the number of candidates per room has been reduced from earlier 24 to 12, now," said the release.
