The Supreme Court of India, on Thursday, dismissed a plea that sought the cancellation of the CBSE compartment examination. The petition was filed by 150198 students from class X and 87651 students from class XII, from schools across the country, who are to write the compartment examinations.

The petitioners had stated that it will be difficult for the students to write these examinations since the pandemic is yet to be contained. They also said they are already at a disadvantage since the exams which are usually held in July, did not happen then. At the same time, the CBSE is yet to release the date sheet for the exam. The petition was disposed of by a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna, stating that the CBSE has filed all its reasons.

At the same time, student political organisation All India Students' Association has moved a letter petition in the top court, seeking suo moto cognisance in this matter. As many as 809 students across the country are signatories in this. The organisation's lawyer tells us that they will be filing a writ on this matter soon. However, considering today's verdict, a piece of positive news for students sound unlikely. AISA had also written letters seeking the cancellation of this examination to the Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and the Chief Ministers of states
