All India Students' Association, the students' wing of the CPIM(L) has appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motto cognisance of the CBSE compartment examinations - and cancel them owing to the pandemic. Over 800 CBSE students from all across the country are signatories in this petition.

After CBSE declared its results, 1,50,198 students from Class X and 87,651 students from Class XII were required to write compartment exams. However, the students have argued that it is risky for them to attend the examinations, owing to the rising number of COVID cases in the country. The CBSE, on the other hand, is yet to release the schedule for the same.

"Conducting compartment examinations right now is an outright violation of students' rights. We want these examinations cancelled at any cost," says Sandeep Sourav, National General Secretary, AISA. He added that the parents are also worried about this. All of the 800 students also took part in a placard protest from their respective homes, against the exams. "In case the appeal isn't considered, we will file a writ in the Supreme Court soon. We are also hoping to talk to the CBSE soon," says Sandeep.

Advocate Tanvi Dubey, who moved the appeal, in a message said that conducting offline examinations is not possible since a lot of schools have been converted into quarantine centres now. She added that the students do not contend the examinations, but are seeking a suitable solution. The Ministry of Home Affairs, on the other hand, has asked all the schools and educational institutions to be closed under Unlock III guidelines.
