UPSC 2019 Results: Of 829 selected, 9.4% EWS, 28% OBC, 15.6% SC and 8% ST

The UPSC 2019 Civil Services results are out and 829 applicants have been deemed suitable to help govern the country. In the list released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), a total of 304 candidates from the general category have featured followed by 251 OBC candidates, 129 SC, 78 EWS and 67 ST candidates.

The UPSC had announced that there will be a 10 per cent reservation for EWS candidates and in its final list 9.4 per cent of the students are from economically weaker sections of the society. OBC candidates formed 28.1 per cent of the selected candidates' list. followed by SC at 15.6 per cent and ST at 8.1 per cent. A total of 36.7 per cent General candidates feature in the list.

While 829 students cleared the exam, there are 927 vacancies reported by the Government to be filled. "Appointment to the various Services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in the Rules for the Examination," said the UPSC. Another 66 candidates have been put on the provisional list while results of 11 candidates have been kept withheld. But even if all 66 of these candidates are included in the final list, the count only rises to 895 — 32 vacancies short of the total 927.
