Parents of a few government school students in Pillyarkuppam in Puducherry locked the school on Tuesday, demanding the police to arrest a teacher there who had allegedly sexually a few students.

According to police, the parents of students have complained that a teacher Rajasekar had sexually harassed a few girl students recently and the girls informed their parents about this. After they (parents) approached the school headmaster and the education department, a police complaint was registered and Rajasekhar was suspended. Police registered cases under Prevention of Child Sexual Office (POCSO) against the teacher.

But Rajasekar is said to be absconding. Following this, the parents and villagers locked the school demanding the arrest of the teacher. As the main gate of the school was locked teachers and students could not enter the school and had to wait outside. Police, however, assured that the teacher will be arrested.

A few days ago, an Indian court had sentenced a man to death under the POCSO act. On September 10, an Odisha court had sentenced a 35-year-old Kalia Manna to death for raping and murdering a nine-year-old girl last year. The act was amended on July 10 saying that the child sexual abusers can be sentenced to death.
