A Group of Ministers set up to look into various aspects of how to prevent sexual harassment at workplace and strengthen legal frameworks met Monday and discussed on future action, officials said.

The GoM is headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani are its members.

The GoM discussed various aspects of the issues of sexual harassment at workplace and possible legal mechanism, an official privy to the meeting said.

There will be more meeting on the subjects in the coming weeks, the official said.

The GoM was first set up in October 2018 to examine and give recommendations for strengthening the legal and institutional frameworks to deal with and prevent sexual harassment at workplace.

The panel was reconstituted after the new government assumed charge, with Shah replacing Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the former home minister, as its head.

The GoM will undertake consultations with stakeholders and examine various suggestions received, another official said.
