Youth association from  Thamaraikulam wins Central government award for cleanliness campaigns

The Vizhuthukal Ilaignar Mandram based Thamaraikulam secured first prize for carrying out cleanliness campaigns and spreading awareness across districts n Swacch Bharat for 100 hours.

The award that carries Rs 30,000 and a certificate was instituted by Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Around 100 members associated with the mandram took out a cleanliness drive and performed folk dance, stressing on the importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness in various places including  Bodi, Thamaraikulam, Jayamangalam, Melmangalam, Vadugapatti and Devathanapatti.

The Mandram attached itself with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and applied for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship-2018 award and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation selected the Mandram for the award.

Nehru Yuvakendra Joint Director  Sundramagalingam handed over the award to Pandy, President of Vizhuthukal Elaignar Mandram in a function held at Bodi last week. The Mandram secretary Ajith Pandy was also present. The Mandram has decided to spend the amount on social work in rural areas.
