A 22-year-old girl committed suicide at Kuruvankuppam village near Neyveli on Monday afternoon after allegedly a picture uploaded by her on Facebook and comments exchanged between her and a 20-year-old boy living in the same village was not well-received by him.

After he got to know about her suicide, her boyfriend too committed suicide. According to police, N Radhika (22) was studying at a private college in Cuddalore. She had supposedly uploaded an obscene picture on her Facebook account, to which Prem Kumar (20), a boy living in Kuruvankuppam colony had commented on the post. To which the girl had also replied to his comment. But, it was not well-received by the boy.

Hence, the boy with his parents had come to the girl's place and have questioned her about using slurs in the comment section of her Facebook post. Angered by this, the girl's parents have scolded her and warned her to behave. Upset over all this, the girl decided to hang herself. But, as soon as the girl was found dead, her relatives in a fit of rage, trashed the boy's house, said police. Subsequently, one Vignesh (23), of Bharatipuram at Vadalur; a relative of Radhika who had been in a relationship with her committed suicide upon hearing the news of Radhika's death, added police.

The girl's body was brought to Government General hospital in Cuddalore, while the boy's body was taken to Kurinjipadi government hospital for postmortem. District Superintendent of Police P Saravanan said, "We are yet to find out if the girl had posted on Facebook or if the account was hacked. But, as the girl's parents scolded her, she decided to commit suicide. We have registered the case and inquiry is being conducted."
