JNU classrooms so crowded that students are sitting on the floor?

A few days ago, JNU freshmen had alleged that the university faces a space crunch in its hostels and that many of them were forced to look for expensive alternatives outside. But looks like the space crunch isn't limited to hostels. Apparently, the classrooms also do not have enough space.

Kriti Roy, Convenor, School of Social Sciences has now written to its Dean saying that the MA classrooms do not have enough space to accommodate all the students. The letter suggests that a few students are even forced to stand or sit on the floor. It also states that the university admitted a lot more students this year in comparison to previous academic years and that the classrooms aren't big enough to accommodate them all. "There is nothing wrong in admitting more students. But at the same time, the university must ensure that it spends enough on infrastructure and construct larger classrooms," she says.

A master's freshman who does not wish to be named also had something similar to share. "We hear that the student strength in our class is around 120. Around 60 of us have started attending classes now and this strength is the maximum that the classroom can take. The others will start coming and soon and we do not know what to do then. The teachers are worried too," she says.

We have sent an email to the SSS Dean Dipendra Nath Das asking for a reaction. This copy will be updated once he responds.
