Akhil, a final year BA History student in University College Thiruvananthapuram was stabbed inside the college premises. The attack was allegedly a result of an inter-department fight. There are also reports that the SFI unit in the college will be dismissed. 

Akhil, who is believed to be a member of the SFI was sitting under a tree with his friends when the incident occurred. He is currently getting his injuries treated at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. 

Protests broke out in the campus soon after the incident, which was the sequel to a dispute between two groups of students belonging to the pro-CPI(M) SFI. There is also a large police presence outside the campus. Further actions will be reportedly taken after a detailed analysis and investigation of the situation.     

A month back, the college's SFI unit was in the news, after a student alleged harassment by the unionists. She had also attempted suicide after this. Following this, the Congress-affiliated KSU then said, "The SFI unionists here have always harassed the students. They also have a torture room inside the campus, where the students are beaten up. They easily get away with the complaints too, thanks to their political connections."
