Akshaya Patra scheme to be implemented in schools from next academic year: Puducherry Edu Minister

The government would implement the 'Akshaya Patra' scheme in schools from the next academic year, Education Minister R Kamalakannan informed the legislative assembly on Friday.

Replying to a question, Kamalakannan said though, the agreement in this regard was signed on July 12, 2018, it could not be implemented due to some administrative constraints.

It is now being implemented in 11 states in the country and several inspections proved that it is a good noon meal scheme for the children, he added.

To a supplementary from N R Congress member Chandrapriyanka, who posed the question whether egg would be provided to children in schools, Kamalakannan said that pure vegetarian food will be provided under the scheme and steps would be taken to provide eggs to school children utilizing the service of employees of breakfast scheme separately.
