JIPMER to build 400-bed Organ Transplant Centre at a cost of Rs 900 crore

Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is planning to build an Institute of Organ transplantation and an Institute of Trauma and Rehabilitation in its Sedarapet campus. A Jipmer release on Tuesday also said that JIPMER signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CPWD (Central Public Works Department) on Wednesday last for construction and development of its Sedarapet campus.

The Institute of Organ Transplantation is planned as a 400-bedded hospital with facilities for transplantation of kidney, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, hands, bone marrow and other organs. Institute of Trauma and Rehabilitation is designed as a facility for advanced trauma and accident care.

The Government of Puducherry has given 50 acres of land to Jipmer for building this campus. Jipmer will spend an estimated Rs 900 crore on these buildings and the campus. CPWD will be the executing agency for the project.

It will appoint a design and architectural consultant to prepare a detailed project plan for the buildings and will supervise the construction. The MoU was signed on August 14 between Jipmer Director Dr Rakesh Aggarwal and Special Director General, CPWD, the release said.
