Section 144 has been imposed on the University of Hyderabad campus since it comes under the Cyberabad area limits. The students had gathered for a protest with regard to the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir last evening but the police arrived on campus to disperse the crowd and allegedly snatched away their posters.

The University then issued a circular stating that all protests and agitations are prohibited in the UoH campus with immediate effect and assembling of five or more persons in one place s also prohibited forthwith. "With reference to the letter issued by SHO, Gachibowlu that as per the notification issued by the Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, there is a prohibition of assembly of five or more persons in the limits of Cyberabad u/s. 144 Cr.P.C," the letter read.

"They don't want us to protest against what is happening in Kashmir. But now that the section is imposed I don't think we will be doing any protesting because we were told we would be arrested," a student said.

However, some student groups had already planned a protest on campus on Tuesday, "We planned a gathering to protest against the delay in releasing the waitlist and the vacancy of the PhD seats," a student said.
