Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday urged the administration to take immediate steps providing 25 per cent reservation in all subjects to Puducherry students.

In a statement, CPM secretary R Rajangam said the reservation system is being followed in central universities in Tamilnadu, and north-eastern states and questioned the reason behind depriving students of Puducherry.

He said when as many as 70 subjects and programmes are offered by the university, reservation is being provided in only 20 subjects. Rajangam also said that the statement of university vice-chancellor Prof.Gurmeet Singh that that reservation could not be provided to local students needs to be condemned. He appealed to all democratic forces here to join together to fight and protect the rights of Puducherry.
