A 21-year-old college student was injured in a clash between students of Presidency College and Pachaiyappa's College in full public view on Wednesday evening.

Around 5.30 pm, a group of seven students, who came on two-wheelers, started attacking another group with logs and sharp weapons. The incident happened near the Avadi bus stand, said an investigating officer.

The passersby and people waiting for the bus started running from the bus stand. In the melee, S Mukesh (21), a third-year BSc student from Presidency, suffered head and shoulder injuries. After police patrol and some commuters started chasing the gang, the students fled. Mukesh was rushed to the Avadi GH and later shifted to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Presidency College students were waiting near the Avadi bus stand when the group from Pachaiyappa's College attacked them due to previous enmity. Avadi Tank police have registered a case and launched a search for the students.
