EdexLive Desk

Over 200 paramedical students of the Madras Medical College staged a protest at the Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore, on Thursday, demanding that they be shifted to a new hostel facility from the existing dilapidates building.

The girl students staged the protest for more than three hours and dispersed after Health department officials promised to accommodate them in a better facility in a week.

According to an official source, "Over 200 paramedical students were accommodated in an old postgraduates building, which is decades-old, at the Government Hospital for Women and Children. But, the building's condition became weak over the years and developed cracks. Over 10 rooms in the building were deemed not fit for accommodation by the Public Works Department when a red alert was sounded recently".
