Karnataka polls are near and this FB page wants to ensure that every youth votes

Punita Maheshwari

Did you know that over 4.5K transgenders will be voting in Karnataka this year? Or that the number of first-time voters has doubled since 2013? Neither did we! But thanks to FB page YoungIndian, that it is collecting these facts, we are not only a bit wiser but have been motivated to vote — ahead of the Karnataka polls in two weeks.

Why do they think it's necessary? According to the page description, the group aims at pushing "India’s youth to participate in activities that may promote the democracy in India." With the Karnataka polls around the corner, YoungIndian is using India's youth favourite and major information source — social media, to encourage them to step out and vote for a "liberal, wise future".

"YoungIndian aims to inculcate in the minds of India’s youth, a commitment to the idea of a democratic and secular society for its entire populace without any distinction as to religion, caste or creed," reads their page description.
