Hours after Aligarh Muslim University took disciplinary action, including suspension of two students, over a dozen masked men on Thursday night barged into the compound of its Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tabassum Shahaab, and allegedly assaulted security personnel and smashed window panes, police said on Friday.

AMU Proctor Prof Mohsin khan said that a video footage of Thursday's violence had been handed over to the police. He said preliminary inputs indicated that "hired professionals from outside the campus were involved in yesterday night's attack ". He also added that the violence appeared to be orchestrated to
destabilise the university administration in which some students were being "used".

According to an official release from AMU, an FIR was filed at the Civil Lines Police Station on Thursday night against unidentified persons. AMU officials said the entire campus unrest is "part of a wider conspiracy to destabilise the newly appointed vice chancellor by vested interests"

However, unable to enter the house, the assailants fled leaving behind broken panes and pained guards before the police arrived. An FIR was also filed against the two students for their alleged involvement in vandalism on campus.
