Ahead of a high-level MHRD meeting scheduled for Wednesday by Union ministers Prakash Javdekar and Maneka Gandhi to set guidelines for protection of children froms exual abuse in schools, Gandhi also reportedly pitched employing more women as bus-drivers and conductors in schools to Javdekar over the phone, say sources.
The ministries of Women and Child Development and Human Resource Development will develop a set of guidelines and protocols for schools to ensure "protection of students from any kind of abuse or physical and mental harm", a WCD spokesperson said.
The conference comes in backdrop of the murder of a Class II student inside Gurgaon's Ryan International School for allegedly resisting sexual assault and the rape of a five- year-old girl in a private school in Shahdara.
Apart from suggesting that more women be employed as support staff in schools; drivers, conductors, she also stressed on the need for strict norms regarding employment of non-teaching staff, according to a government official.
