An Associate Professor of the Dr. Shakuntala Misra Rehabilitation University in Lucknow has been suspended by the University administration after he allegedly eloped with a female student, who had gotten married two months before. A three-member committee was formed under the Dean of Student Welfare to look into the matter. A University official reported that the Associate Professor of Special Education (mental retardation), Arvind Sharma (40), eloped with a 25-year-old student of M.A English on June 19 after which the administration cited a case of "violation of code of teacher's conduct" and suspended him. Sharma, who is married with two children had been working at the university since 2009. The University came to know about the matter on June 20 when the student's parent reported the matter to the Vice Chancellor, Nishith Rai. The woman had sent a message to her parents that she was willingly leaving with Sharma and that they should not try to trace her.
