The students of Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla had called off their 10-day-long protest, after the administration decided to comply with the students' demands. The students say that the administration agreed that their demands were 'basic rights'. The university which was shut down following the protest is also reopened now.

"We called off the strike yesterday. The Chancellor Justice DC Chaudhary and the Bar Council Chairman Ramakant Sharma listened to all our grievances and assured that all our demands will be met," says a first-year student."There were no negotiations too. They said that all the issues will be resolved as soon as possible," she adds. However, the authorities are yet to give this in writing.

The students say that the hostels now have water supply and electricity. "The library timings will soon be extended. Also, a student body will be constituted soon," says the student.

The students had previously alleged that the university does not provide basic facilities to them like clean drinking water, mess, proper lighting, clean toilets, laundry and internet. Six months ago, in March, they had staged a protest to demand clarity in the fee structure. At that time too, they had written to the Vice-Chancellor, complaining about the same issues.
