A protest march against the lynching of Muslim men and women at Aligarh Railway station on Sunday, September 15, 2019, allegedly by a group of 20 to 25 goons is being organised by the students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Monday at 5 pm from the university Canteen to the Bab-e-Syed gate.

"The protest is important to send a strong message to all those elements who are helbent on destroying the communal harmony at Aligarh. Such elements must be immidiately booked and Aligarh must be saved from communal hatred," AMUSU President M Salman Imtiaz told Edex. He urged students to raise their voices for peace and condemn the elements of hate and call for justice to the victims of mob violence.

Five to six Muslim men and women travelling from Kannauj to Aligarh were allegedly attacked by some saffron goons as soon as they reached Aligarh Station. A group of 20-25 people began beating them. Rail guards came a while later to the scene as they heard a commotion. The perpetrators ran away as soon the guards came, alleged Salman. "I don't know what would have happened if the guards didn't reach there on time," he added.

The men and women who were beaten up have been admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, affiliated to AMU. "We have known Aligarh to be a place where unity in diversity is respected, this incident came as a surprise. So, we are urging all communities, not just Muslims but everyone to come forward and condemn this violence. For this, we are organising the protest march and will also present a memorandum to the District Magistrate. We demand that strict and punitive actions will be taken against those perpetrators who are trying to corrupt the minds of people here and spread hatred. This is a genuine cause and voice should be raised against such acts of violence thus, we decided to conduct the protest," explained Salman.
