Since the introduction of the new syllabi, the Academic Council and the Students' Union of the University of Delhi have been in disagreement with each other. The recent developments in this issue suggest that soon, the students of the university may design their own syllabi. The DUSU has now formed a drafting committee for the scrutiny of the curriculum.

Titled Students' Open Forum for Scrutiny of Under Graduate Curriculum (SOFSUGC), the committee will submit its report on suggested changes in the syllabi to the Heads of Departments of English, Sociology, Political Science and History after seeking students' views on each syllabus. "This committee will democratise the process of syllabus drafting. We hope that the university includes its students in making key decisions," said Shakti Singh, President, DUSU. "We have been working towards constituting this for the past two days," he added. The Union has submitted a proposal regarding the same to the university's proctor, Vice-Chancellor and the HRD Ministry.

The teachers, on the other hand, call the move 'unfortunate'. "DU's English course is the most sought after one in the country. This means that the teachers here have been doing well in designing the syllabi and teaching it. If you're taking away our right to draft and teach syllabi without fear, it is an attack on the university and on the education that the future generations will receive," said Abha Dev Habib, a faculty at Miranda House. 

A former member of the academic council, she said, "We're open to suggestions from students, teachers and concerned citizens. But here, the ABVP is making a suggestion with a certain purpose. It is different from the general students' feedback. We are always open to feedback. In fact, we keep that in mind while drafting syllabi." But at the same time, she said that interferences to push certain ideology cannot be entertained.
