Teachers in Indian Universities should get better exposure to motivate students: European University Chancellor Prof Mohan K Gautam

European University of West, Nederland, Chancellor and President Prof Mohan K Gautam said that the Professors in Indian Universities should be sent outside to get better exposure.

He said that these teachers should come back and teach the students so that they would carry out research focused. Speaking after inaugurating ICSSR sponsored ten days Research Methodology Course for scholars in Social sciences at the Department of Anthropology here on Monday, he said that the Indians serving abroad are known for coming out with new ideas an for carrying out good field works.

However, the situation is different back in India and felt that it is high time that the teachers should be updated, motivate students to do better research with new ideas to come out with new research. He threw light on the methodology that should be carried to create a society through collected data, demonstrate data to write papers focusing research at both macro and micro levels. Observing that countries like France, Germany and other countries have developed their own manual for collection of data , he said that field workers should know the local language of the communities, know society, stay with the people, develop rapo than go for photographs and field workers should maintain transparency informing what they are doing with the data. Gautam said that there should be training to field workers as they should not segregate the society on urban, rural backgrounds.

Vice Chancellor Aisha M Sheriff said that Anthropology has to re-position itself to study all the communities from different perspectives and enable between understanding between communities, even countries and contribute to policy making and governance.

Ashe said that Anthropological methods are widely accepted in the arena of social science research with traditional anthropological methods like participant observation, ethnographic study of different society, in-depth case studies combined with micro studies form uniqueness in the research area. Anthropologist Prof Premananda Panda of Sambalpur University, Registrar Prof R Rajanna, Prof M R Gangdhar also spoke.
