As mercury marches towards 40, 15-year-old in Pollachi dies of 'freak' sunstroke

A 14-year-old student who had recently completed class IX examination in Coimbatore reportedly died of sunstroke, here on Monday. According to police, the student was named as G Sivakarthi (14), son of Gnanasekaran, a native of Pollachi. He was studying in Government higher secondary school in Pollachi.

He along with family members went to his grandparent's house located at Chettipalayam near Perur in City a week ago. "On Monday, when they were preparing to go for Maruthamalai temple, the boy fell down while playing at an upstairs of the home. We cancelled the trip and taken him to the Coimbatore medical college hospital, however, they declared that he died on the way" said Ayyasamy, grandfather of the boy.

The family members claimed that though he was in good health and played well, he went sudden faint due to the sunstroke which was high at a time. "He fainted suddenly while playing in sunlight continuously, excessive exposure of sun is the main reason for his death" Ayyasamy added. However, it has not been confirmed by the health department officials. Officials said the cause of death was yet to be ascertained and they were not willing to do postmortem at time. Perur police have been investigating the cause of death due to the issue made a talk among the public and to avoid the panic situation..
