As the election dates are approaching, right from government agencies to media outlets to stand up comedians, everyone these days is doing their bit to make sure that they bring the maximum number of people to polling booths. To invoke a sense of political awareness among the young first-time voters and to obviously bring them to the booths on April 18, the Public Elections Department, Tamil Nadu along with a quizzing platform Goalquiz has now come up with a different technique — An Election Quiz.

The quiz will be held at Anna University's Vivekananda Auditorium on Wednesday, April 10, at 1.30 pm which is a week before the polling dates in Tamil Nadu. Students can form a team of two members and register themselves by just sending an email to goalquiz@gmail.com. Now, wait for the best part, which is, of course, the reward. The winning team will receive a prize of Rs 25,000, while the second and the third prize winners will receive Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000  respectively.

The quiz's organsisers assures that the event will be entertaining and not at all preachy. "We have young people coming here on a hot afternoon. So, we want them to benefit the maximum out of it," says T N Raghu, the founder of Goalquiz. He says that he had received over 250 registrations, the last he checked (Monday night). "We also have people from other states coming in. The questions are not just based on Tamil Nadu politics, but on the Indian Parliamentary system altogether," adds Raghu.

A sports commentator, Raghu founded the platform to mainly conduct sports quiz. But he later switched to conducting politics quiz too, for students. "This will be my fourth quizzing event and the largest. It was my idea to combine it with voting awareness and Satyabrata Sahoo, the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu was instantly on board," he says.

The entry for the quiz closes on Tuesday night.
