Listen up, bibliophiles! Looking for fun things to do this summer like, just laying back and reading books? This might be the only place you’ll have to visit.
The ‘Lock-The-Box’ sale, organized by bookchor.com, happening in Vijaya Mahal in T Nagar, has over 90,000 pre-owned books that you can choose from and they’re offering quite the interesting deal. You needn’t pay per book, you don’t receive discounts or offers or even pay by the kg. It’s a one-time payment for all you can fit in a box.
Walk in anytime between 9 am to 10 pm on June 8,9 and 10 to explore your options.
They’ll be offering 3 different sized boxes, priced accordingly, at the venue and the rest is up to you and how many books you can fit into them.
The ‘Odysseus’ Box- Use this box to fit a minimum of 8-10 books in this light sized box priced at INR 999.
The ‘Perseus’ Box- this box priced at INR 1499, can easily accommodate 15-17 books.
The ‘Hercules’ Box- The biggest of the lot, costs INR 2499 and can easily hold up to 28-30 books.
”The idea is that no one should discriminate books on the basis of its price or weight and they can fit in any book in the box irrespective of it as long as the box is closing flat,” says co-founder, Alok Raj Sharma.
The company was founded by Alok Raj Sharma, Prateek Maheshwari, Bhavesh Sharma and Vidyut Sharma in October 2015. The inspiration behind the start-up came from their own struggle to navigate the availability of these books when they were in college.
Other than Chennai, which would be Bookchor.com’s fifth event this year, they have a three-day event in Ahmedabad in June coming up. They plan to do around 12-15 more events like this in this year.
People who wish to donate books can do so by visiting the venue on the day of the event and drop them off. All the profit made by selling donated books would be used to buy relevant books for the children of Shubh Foundation in Delhi.

The website has been operational for last two years and they sell second-hand books. They currently have a customer base of over 2.5 lakh readers and receive orders from all around the country.
