Imagine having a reset button to life. Whenever you feel like you have committed a blunder, at a click of a button, you can rewind time and start with a clean slate. That's the privilege that Abhay has in Praneeth Prattipati's short film Black Coffee. But does one really need a reset button in order to get what they want or is it enough that we are ourselves? This is the question that the short film explores and answers through this love story. For many, this short film is proving to be the right brew as it is receiving its fair share of love online, much to Praneeth Prattipati's delight. 

I did not expect this kind of wonderful reaction for Black Coffee

While pursuing Direction and Screenwriting from Ramanaidu Film School, Prattipati did direct a few projects, but this one is the first one he has released. "After film school, I wrote a script and started pitching it to producers. One well-known producer liked it, but wanted to see more of my work," explains the 23-year-old. So the producer, who would like to remain anonymous, funded half of Black Coffee, and the rest half came through crowdfunding. Budget remained an issue and so was the schedule. But what was paramount for Prattipati was teamwork. "Even the actors gave inputs which really enriched the process," says the Hyderabadi lad. Since it was uploaded on YouTube on November 23, the film has crossed one lakh views and is still going strong. "I was really overwhelmed with the response. I just wanted to direct a simple, low-key film, but it has been watched and appreciated by a lot of people," he says.

After taking a stab at simplicity, Prattipati wants to explore genres which are not a part of mainstream Telugu cinema, like an out and out gangster movie. "A new wave needs to engulf Telugu cinema," says the filmmaker.
