Education department seeks classes V, VIII students' skills report ahead of board exams

The Directorate of Elementary Education had instructed the district officials to inspect in the primary and middle schools on a regular basis

With the school education department ordering the public exams for Class V and VIII students from this year, the Directorate of Elementary Education has asked the district education officials to send the school inspection reports before November 7. It has sought a report to know about the students' educational skills.

According to the source, the Directorate of Elementary Education had instructed the district officials to inspect in the primary and middle schools on a regular basis. During the inspection, the Block Educational Officers (BEOs) have also kept in mind that some students suffer from learning disorders in terms of writing, pronunciations, and other activities, etc in government schools.

Based on the inspection, the BEOs have evaluated the students' skills and they have prepared a report to present to the school education department. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Elementary Education directed the district officials to submit the school's inspection report before November 7. SS Kulam District Educational Officer (DEO) R Geetha said, "In view of improving the educational skills among the school students, the school education department has taken various steps. The high school teachers are complaining that the students who have completed primary education, do not even know how to read or write a few subjects like English and Mathematics. As a result, they said that it was difficult for the students to get into high schools. To avoid this, the department directed us to inspect each students' skills in government schools. For this, the department has given guidelines to conduct inspections. In Coimbatore district, we have done mass inspection in government schools in 15 blocks and we will submit the report to the department soon."

After inspection, they have found that there are a few poor and average students in every class in primary and middle schools. Some students are not interested to learn subjects and few of them are slow learners. In some cases, teaching method is also not working out. The officials hope that the department will address these problems. A senior official in the department said, "The BEOs have inspected the educational skills for the students studying from I to VIII for the last five months. At present, the department will conduct the public examination for class V, VIII students in this year. So, we will check the students' education skills, especially for class V, VIII students. If have any shortcomings in the education quality, we will take the right decision to rectify it."
